This is my first and hopefully last non-toon post, but I thought it was important to share. I typically don’t agree with much of what President Obama says, but I agree 100% with his comments regarding gay marriage. It’s that simple. I don’t want to hear about his ‘evolving’ viewpoint for 3+ years and cries of ‘he’s just saying this because it is an election year.’
The important thing here is that a sitting US President said that he supports gay marriage. It does not matter if Obama said it or our next president or the one after him/her. It was said and it’s about damn time. The gay couples that I know are just as, if not more devoted to one another than most straight couples. I have no frame of reference, but this must be a huge relief….just to hear these statements from the White House.
Oh, and this isn’t about religion either. We are all sinners. Let’s get over ourselves. ‘But the Bible says homosexuality is an abomination.’ It says shell fish is too, so Lord strike me down during Crawfish season. The Jesus in my heart doesn’t care how love is born and where it resides. He keeps it pretty simple.
Last week, I had the pleasure of attending an All Boys match in Buenos Aires. It was sublime. The crowd, the energy, the play, everything was just beautiful. Throughout the match, there was an old man who kept pacing and alternating inhaling his cigarette and kissing his rosary depending on how tense the game was at that given moment. It was my favorite part of the game. Watching this lifelong fan support his team. Sport and faith colliding in a series of tiny moments….his team won.
